Dr. Sonya Wanklyn received her PhD in Clinical Psychology from Ryerson University. She completed her predoctoral internship at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Jackson Mississippi, specializing in trauma-related, anxiety, and substance use disorders.
Dr. Wanklyn is passionate about providing treatment for adults and couples presenting with various concerns, such as depression, stress-management, interpersonal and relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, posttraumatic stress, problematic substance use, and anxiety. Using a theoretical orientation that is grounded in evidence-based treatment and principles, she works collaboratively with clients to create a supportive and empowering environment that fosters personal growth and enhanced quality of life. Dr. Wanklyn strongly believes that best practices for treatment are built upon a foundation of scientific study coupled with individual client needs and strengths.
In addition to working at CBT Associates, Dr. Wanklyn currently holds as a postdoctoral fellowship at CAMH, where her research is focused on understanding and treating co-occurring posttraumatic stress disorder and substance use disorder. She is currently completing her year of supervised practice as a member of the College of Psychologists of Ontario, and is also a member of the Canadian Psychological Association and the Ontario Psychological Association. She is a quality-rated provider of Cognitive Behavioral Conjoint Therapy for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (CBCT for PTSD).
