Ms. Amber Mckenzie became interested in psychology while working at a residential addiction treatment centre for severely addicted adolescents. She started off working with siblings of addicted adolescents, and over time she also began counselling addicted adolescents and their parents. She saw damaged families heal right before her eyes. At this treatment centre, Ms. Mckenzie became aware of the life-changing impact of working with the family as a system to help change a presenting problem in an individual. She became passionate about helping individuals and families heal.
At CBT Associates she provides sensitive and empathetic counselling to individuals, couples and families. She works with children, adolescents and adults in a number of areas including: psychological disorders (e.g., anxiety, depression, and trauma); self-harm; substance use disorders; and family relational problems (e.g., parent-child relationships, and romantic relationships).
Ms. Mckenzie takes pride in providing meaningful education to others. Ms. Mckenzie has published articles and presented at professional conferences in the area of parenting capacity. Ms. Mckenzie works for the Crisis and Trauma Resource Institute, where she facilitates workshops that focus on helping individuals, organizations, and communities work with issues related to crisis and trauma. Ms. Mckenzie also works for Achieve: Centre for Leadership and Workplace Performance, where she provides workshops geared towards enhancing workplace interpersonal skills.
